Glan Agua MEIC Charity Fundraising

In September of 2017, we at Glan Agua & MEIC undertook our second Charity Cycle Event. Building on our success in completing our first Charity Cycle in 2016, where we raised over €10,000 for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, we decided to get on our bikes again to raise funds for another worthy cause. We chose the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) as our nominated Charity for 2017, as their work is dear to the hearts of many within our organisation. The IMNDA is the only organisation of its kind in Ireland providing care and support to people with Motor Neurone Disease, their families, friends and carers. Their website address is and here you will find lots of information on the great work that they do and the care and support that they provide to people and families affected by this debilitating condition.

For this event we decided to cycle from our newly opened offices in City West, Dublin to the Connacht Hotel in Galway city. This journey of 210 Km took us along the old N6 route through towns such as Lucan, Rochfortbridge, Horseleap, Loughrea and Ballinasloe. The day was eventful to say the least. However, the numerous punctures suffered (three in the first 30 minutes of cycling), the incessant headwind, sleet showers, broken cleats and terrible singing (you know who you are!!) failed to dampen our spirits. People had dig deep both mentally & physically to get through what was tough day but the laughing & joking never stopped. After our last pit-stop at Corrib Oil Loughrea, and as the group left Oranmore where passed the 200km mark, people began to realise we were nearly done. We arrived into the Connacht Hotel in Galway as the last light of day faded, some twelve & half hours after leaving Dublin. Upon arrival at the Hotel there were family, friends & work colleagues to meet us. Then in true Glan Agua style were partied till late, reliving the day, telling anyone that would listen that it wasn’t really that tough!! Notwithstanding the tremendous effort invested into this event by the Glan Agua & MEIC team, the success of this event would not have been possible without the generous support and contributions of so many of our family, friends and loyal subcontractors, suppliers and wider supply partners.

In total we raised a sum of €13,474 which greatly surpassed our original target. We were delighted to meet with representatives from the IMNDA at our Head Office in Loughrea to make the presentation for such a worthy cause. A few photos from the event are shown below. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported the fundraise in any way at all. We at Glan Agua are so grateful for the opportunity to give back to such a valued organisation as the IMNDA and your help in achieving the fundraised value is deeply appreciated. Plans are currently well underway for our 2018 Charity Event. This year we have something totally different in mind which should allow greater levels of participation both within the Glan Agua & MEIC Group and also within our network of family friends and supply chain partners. This year’s event is a relay-style triathlon which is to take place on the 31st August 2018. The proceeds of this year’s fundraiser are to be donated to the Alzheimers Society of Ireland Laois. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is the leading dementia specific service provider in Ireland. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers. A national non-profit organisation, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is person centred, rights-based and grassroots led with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core. We will be back with further updates as we develop the plans for this event.
