Completion of Castlemaine WWTP
Added August 10, 2020
Our ECI Framework Director Dr. John Fox was on-site in Castlemaine WWTP last week as the project transitions from the Design Build phase to the Operations phase.
Following Covid-19 lockdown, the process proving period was re-started under strict health & safety measures. Glan Agua and MEIC are now working on further process optimisation measures. The purpose of this is to lead to TOTEX saving going forward for Irish Water.
The new wastewater infrastructure will facilitate future growth in the village and surrounding area, and ensure compliance with national and EU regulations in relation to the treatment of wastewater.
These upgrades have modernised the wastewater treatment process, improved water quality in the River Maine and Castlemaine Harbour.
During the site visit last week, all training with Operational Staff was carried out with social distancing measures in place, ensuring that all safety measures with regard to Covid-19 were adhered to.
This project was completed under the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) framework for Irish Water, and it is a major milestone for this project and the wider community providing better health and integrity of the environment.
