Oughterard Sewerage Scheme – WWTP Upgrade, Galway
Glan Agua Ltd. have been awarded and have commenced construction on the Oughterard SS WWTP  Upgrade. The project consists of the following main elements along with ancillary works for the plant to be fully operational and to a high standard;

  • Design & Build of a 2,400PE WWTP on an existing site adjacent to the existing WWTP
  • Provision of Site infrastructure including site lighting, services, roads, footpaths, drainage, and landscaping so as to enhance plant performance and function
  • Divert flows to the new facility on completion of the WWTP
  • Operation of the existing plant during the DB phase
  • Operation of the new WWTP for a period of 1 year after completion

The objectives of the Oughterard Sewerage Scheme - WwTP Upgrade include the following:
  • To improve the quality of the environment for receiving waters and terrestrial areas in Oughterard
  • To provide a sewerage system that complies with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive, the EU Water Framework Directive and the Western River Basin District Management Plan, while also considering all environmental issues
  • To provide a sewerage treatment system that complies with the European Communities Environmental Objectives (Freshwater Pearl Mussel) Regulations 2009 (SI No. 206 of 2009) which sets environmental objectives for a freshwater pearl mussel habitat
  • To help provide treated effluent discharges which comply with the parameters and specifications set out in the Wastewater Discharge Licence for Oughterard (D0192-01)
